Dorm Life : Rug Style

Whether it's your first or last time, there’s nothing quite like moving into the dorm. The energy, excitement and buzz are exhilarating. And then . . . there’s the decorating!
To recreate the excitement of building a Back-To-College style, we called on Belmont Abbey College. The private, liberal-arts college in Belmont, NC graciously opened their doors to our tiny crew of two. And, with the help of one student volunteer, we staged four rugs to show how a floor covering can change the look and feel of a small space.
Warm and cozy, area rugs from the Cotton Tail collection added sumptuous softness to the dorm room’s hard floors. The rich, plush texture of the line’s super-fine yarn is nothing short of incredible. You can see the density of the fibers, but you’ll never truly understand the bounce-back and soothing texture until you touch these amazing rugs.
For this vignette, we used the Textured Dots area rug. With a classic blue and white color scheme, this rug is at home anywhere. We added a faux fur chair liner for added softness and made sure to accent the room with plenty of pillows for guests to prop up on.
Also from the Cotton Tail collection, the Nardik area rug in soft white features a multi-colored freehand pattern, this rug is comfortable, free-spirited and completely on-trend. Simple, solid accessories let the design of this cozy floor covering take center stage.
Of course, if your student prefers a low-profile, the Adagio and Riverstone collections make for great shopping. The richly textured, saturation-dyed yarns of these rugs make them ideal additions to busy dorm rooms. They’re easy to sweep and vacuum – even if it is with a dust buster. And, should someone spill their drink, this area rug is easy to spot treat.
Here, the laid-back Kuba Delight area rug from the Riverstone collection lends a chill vibe to dorm life. With a wink at indigenous patterning, the soft tones blend effortlessly with myriad color schemes. And the soft touch of the pile creates an inviting space for lounging at night.
Equally relaxed, the more repetitive patterning of the Arrowhead area rug from the Adagio collection adds an effortlessly cool vibe to any dorm room. Plus, the soothing mineral color palette has a slight sheen and looks great with a variety of styles.
